To Scheffxp

I read Scheffxp’s question and wanted a go at responding myself.

Scheffxp contends that ‘atheism is a religion’. I contend that Scheffxp needs to purchase a dictionary, or even look up an online dictionary, and re-read the definitions of ‘religion’ and ‘atheism’.

Atheism: rejection of belief in god or gods. / Disbeleif in the existence of gods or deities, supreme beings or being.

Religion: belief in, worship of, or obedience to a supernatural power or powers considered to be divine or to have control of human destiny.

This needed clearing up, as Scheffxp appears to beleive that your blog runs at a double standard. It does not.

Now as to the actual question.

why is it ok for you to prove the non existence of God and not ok for others to prove God is real.

No one has said that theist’s are not allowed to ‘prove the existence’ of their deities. To the contrary, in fact, most atheist’s - myself in cluded - would love for theist’s to come up with some actual proof. The problem is that none ever do. They hem and hah about this theological discussion, or that personal experience, or this passage in this holy book. There has never, ever, been any hard evidence to prove any given deity.

If you actually have some? GREAT. Get it to the nearest well known atheist you can think of, or better yet, get it to the nearest scientist! If it stands the test of science, you’re well on your way to prooving the existence of deities!

Now all you have to do, is make sure it proves the existence of the particular deity that you follow, in the form that you follow it.

As for the flip of that coin? Atheist’s rarely try to ‘disprove god’, because they know it can’t be done. You can’t prove a negative, as they say. All we actually do, is point out the flaws and leave those flaws out there, hanging loose, for everyone to see, and hope that people notice them.

Hope this helped.
